Superhero films: strongest film genre yet?

When you go to a theatre in the modern day, you will be able to see various types of movies. Among them, it will be quite common for you to see a superhero film. When literature and art regarding superheroes are taken into account, it will be possible for one to observe that it goes back decades, to the era of comics. While they came to place with comics, they have managed to enter the silver screen in quite an effective manner.

The journey so far

Superhero films are nothing new. There are classic superhero films that are still enjoyed. However, some of the older superhero films rely on nostalgia today rather than relying on the artistic value. While there have been various attempts to bring up superhero franchises, most of them have failed due to the poor execution of the latter additions to their movies. A good example for this will be Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man series, which had to end solely because of the poor execution of Spider-Man 3. However, there are superhero franchises that are commercially and critically acclaimed that have also met their end such as Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.

However, there is no denying that the strongest superhero franchise to hit the theatres ever, is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, it being the highest grossing film franchise of all time says a lot about the popularity of the franchise and the popularity of the genre. With a rather conclusive instalment coming into place soon, it can be predicted that superhero movies are facing their golden age.

Possible end of the trend

However, all the genres that has come to place in the world have seen their end eventually. The cowboy genre died out, the pirate genre barely even started, spy films are reduced to just a couple of releases per year, and it is clear that the same will happen to the superhero genre. However, there real question is not when it will happen, but how it will happen.

The evolution of superhero films

Reviews show that people are getting rather tired of the typical ‘hero saving the day’ plot. It is only understandable with more than twenty superhero films following similar formats within the past decade. However, the genre had seen a certain evolution, because people are more focused on intricately woven personal stories with grounded realities, even in the superhero genre. The films that have successfully adapted to this format have seen much success. It should be clear to one that superhero films have to go down that path in order to stay alive.

In any case, it is a highly enjoyable genre that people of all ages could properly enjoy. Therefore, it would be ideal for you to stay alert about the latest news and releases on superhero films!
